Why Solia

Why Solia

What the name means. What the wall does. What we never do.

The name
Solia means sun. The Latin sol. Every life leaves light. A wall is a place to keep that light gathered.

Solia is named for what light remains after the sun goes down. The warmth held on a stone wall for an hour after dusk. The way a window keeps its color a little longer than it should.

What a person leaves behind is not the person. It is, instead, a quieter thing — a voicemail, a photograph in a drawer, a story a friend told once at the kitchen table. Real, partial, and worth keeping. The name Solia is for that light. The product is named Solia Wall because the wall is where the light is kept.

What the wall does

One plaque. One wall. One product.

Solia Wall is one product. A small stainless steel plaque with a laser-engraved QR code, and a digital tribute wall that the QR code opens.

The plaque is marine-grade stainless steel, sized to fit a gravestone, an urn, a mantle, a garden stone, or a frame on a wall at home. It adheres with 3M VHB and is rated for outdoor weather and frost. It does not need power. It does not need batteries. It carries one piece of information — a code that opens a private memorial page.

The wall on the other side of that code holds what the family already has. Photographs. Voicemails the deceased left while living. Video from real moments. Written tributes from people who knew them. Family members can be invited to add their own, in their own words. The wall is editable, at any time, from any device, by anyone the account owner authorizes.

That is the entire product. There is no app to download. There is no upsell stack. The wall remains viewable for the life of the company, whether the hosting subscription is active or not — and we have a written succession plan, in our Terms of Service, for the day the company itself no longer exists.

What we never do

The four commitments.

The memorial-technology market has, in the last several years, expanded into territory we have chosen not to enter. These are not soft preferences. They are permanent product decisions.

We do not clone, generate, or synthesize the voice of a deceased person. No AI-generated speech. No “talk with” features. No simulated conversations. The recordings on a Solia wall are recordings the deceased made while living, uploaded by the family.
We do not animate photographs. No motion applied to still faces. No “live photo” features that move a person who can no longer move.
We do not generate likeness in any form. No deepfake video. No AI-generated portraits. No synthesized handwriting. No image of the deceased that the deceased did not, in life, create or consent to.
We do not simulate presence. Solia Wall is not a chatbot. It is not designed to feel like the deceased is still answering. It is a wall, not a séance.

An accessibility feature uses generic text-to-speech to read written tributes aloud in a clearly synthesized neutral voice. That voice is never represented as the deceased’s voice and never could be mistaken for one.

These commitments will not change with a feature release, an acquisition, or a market trend. If the company is ever sold, they pass to the buyer in writing as a condition of sale.

Who we are

A small team in the United States.

Solia is operated by a small team in the United States. Each of us has lost someone, and each of us came away from those losses with the same observation — that the industry handling death does not handle the people death leaves behind very well. The funeral-home tribute pages are stuck two decades in the past. The newer products use synthetic voices and animated faces in ways that feel less like memorial and more like trespass. The marketing copy in most memorial inboxes performs grief instead of respecting it.

We made Solia because there is room, between the granite headstone and the AI hologram, for a quieter object. A piece of stainless steel. A code. A wall that holds what is real. That is the whole company. There is no second product on a roadmap. There is no platform play. There is one plaque and one wall, made carefully, supported for as long as the wall it opens is wanted.
